Well, if anyone was following me through the designer contest at GDS (GoDigitalScrapbooking) then you already know that I didn't win.  But that's OK.  I get enough enjoyment out of just participating; it helps to get me thinking more creatively.

Designer Contest Final Round - Free for Limited Time

I'm writing this post while my head is all muddled from lack of sleep (haven't slept in over 25 hours and not expecting to catch any for a long while yet either).  Another crazy week but I'll spare you the details.

I made it to the 4th and final round of the designer contest at GDS (GO Digital Scrapbooking) and this morning (9:00 AM EST) is the deadline for the design submissions; I just finished up a half hour ago and uploaded my kit, The Fab Fifties, to the contest gallery.  I'd love to leave more details about it but honestly, I'm not thinking straight here at all.  So, just the basics for you today.

The kit can be downloaded for free until December 3rd, 2012, you can find the links HERE in the GDS Gallery (you must be logged into the site to see it).

Most of the items are hand drawn by me; my favorite pieces are the metalic bow with pearls (to emulate a pin like mother or grandmother use to wear), the cat-eye glasses and the cadilac (it's the only caddie I'll ever own, LOL).

Thanks for stopping by; Happy Scrapping!

Designer Contest Round 3 - Free for a limited time

I've had another crazy, busy week with doctor appointments, building contractors and some volunteer work all the while working on the design of my kit for round 3 of the 2012 Designer Contest at GDS (GO Digital Scrapbooking).

For this week's challenge we were given a color palette with which to work and we were also given a grab bag of commercial use, digital scrapbooking, items and asked to create a kit of 5 papers, 10 elements and a separate cluster frame using items from our kit; we were not allowed to use any other commercial use items, only those provided and any of our own creation could be used.  The theme was to be our choice.  Looking at the colors in the palette made me think of my mother, not really sure why, maybe because the colors seemed feminine and faded, getting me thinking about vintage things and the need to do more work on scrapping my own collection of old, genealogical photographs and the fact that my Mom is no longer around for me to ask all the questions I have about the photos from her childhood.  Mom died in 2002 and I miss her as much today as I always have; this kit is 'In Her Memory'.
Most of the items included in this kit are of my own design, I used a limited amount of the commercial use items provided to us.  Details on each item are included in the download, which you can get by going HERE the GDS Gallery (you must be logged into the site to see it).

And the download link for the Cluster Frame I created using items within the kit can be found HERE at the GDS Gallery.
Well, that's it for me... need to get up early tomorrow to do some cooking for our Thanksgiving celebrations.
Happy Scrapping!

Round 2 of the 2012 Designer Contest at GoDigitalScrapbooking

I've just uploaded my kit for Round 2 of the Designer Contest at GDS (GO Digital Scrapbooking.

For this week's challenge we were given a very colorful photograph of some flowers and asked to create a color palette of any 6 colors found in the photo then we were to design a ckit based on something from our 'bucket lists' (that list of things we all hope or dream of doing before our lives are over).

Ever since I was a teenager in high school I've wanted to buy or rent an RV and travel the U.S., stopping in every state (the lower 48 states - Hawaii and Alaska are separately on my list) so that's the theme I chose.  The results of my work, 'On The Road'.  Although I used a number of designer resources for the textures in this kit, most all of the items are of my own design; my favorites are the Eagle, RV and Binoculars, each was drawn by me using the pen tool in Photoshop CS5 and a Wacom Tablet.

If you'd like to download this (currently) FREE kit for yourself, you'll find the link in the GDS Gallery HERE.  However, please note that you won't see the gallery or the link unless you are first logged into the GDS site (please see my post from November 6th for more information).

The 2012 Design Quest challenges

... hosted by Scrapping Fairytales, is in it's final week.  The 4th challenge was originally due this past Monday on October 29th but because so many people participating in the challenges were affected by Hurricane Sandy, the deadline for this challenge was pushed out another week.

Our Challenge for Week 4

... was to think of Europe and to create a mini kit (with specific requirements) and a Quick Page that somehow reflects our own ideas of Europe; considering the number of countries and the varying lifestyles and tradtions that make up Europe one can see that it is a very broad theme with which to be inspired and the designs could have been done in so many ways.

Having never been to Europe myself, my imagery of there comes only from books, television, magazines and talking with people who are either from there or have traveled there at some time in their lives.  I conjured up so very many images in my mind but in the end I settled with a sort of day dream... I imagined a quaint, country cottage with a beautiful garden filled with, among other things, ivy and roses and then I imagined sitting in in this garden with my feet up, totally immersed in the sweet aroma of the flowers while drinking a warm and tasty, cup of tea, totally relaxed and treasuring the moment.

From these thought I created the mini kit, 'Tea Time'.  You can download the mini kit and corresponding Quick Page for free for a limited time (see details below).

And here is the Quick Page I created from this mini kit:

The Quick Page can be downloaded from MediaFire by clicking HERE.

To download the mini kit, you have the choice of 1 large file (62MBOR 2 smaller files (28MB and 34MB).

That's it for today, thanks for stopping by.

Design Quest Week 3 - Another Freebie

Well, I didn't think I'd get this challenge done this week because I've been so busy at home but I managed it afterall.  And I really enjoyed making this one... I have a couple of other cute elements to add to the kit but the challenge only allowed for 8.  I may make a coordinating kit... would love to hear what others think.

You can find the download link for this kit by visiting this link(http://scrappingfairytales.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=5933&title=sleepy-time&cat=714) to my gallery at Scrapping Fairytales.
I'm sorry, the download link has expired.

Buzzy Little Bee - Digital Scrapbook Freebie

Well I've completed the 2nd challenge given for the 2012 Design Quest over at Scrappying Fairytales.  The challenge was to choose 1 of two color palettes provided (both were monochrome neutrals), add one color (but two shades of lightness) to make it 'pop' and then create a mini kit of any theme using our 'pop' color only in the elements.  I decided on yellow with the gray monochrome palette and a theme of 'bees'.  It's called 'Buzzy Little Bee'.

This 'Buzzy Little Bee', digital scrapbook, kit is a ©Rose Thorn original (no commercial use products were used); everything is hand-drawn and/or assembled from basic shapes provided within the Adobe Photoshop software program that I use for designing.

You can download this mini kit via THIS LINK.  I'm sorry, the download link has expired.

I'm not sure how long I'll have this mini kit available for download but, for now, its free.

Thanks for stopping by; Happy Scrapping!

I'm Back with New Stuff (and a couple of Freebies)

I'm back!

Back from my break, sort of, although I didn't get done half of what I had hoped when I started my break.  My home was flooded the first weekend in August and about a month later, the wind blew a branch off a nearby tree straight through my roof, so the trauma and mess from those events meant that my time was otherwise used.  Although the hole in the roof is now repaired, I'm still awaiting work to be done to fix the damaged caused by the flood both outside and in my home.

At the beginning of September, I created a mini kit for the contest over at Digital Scrapbook Studio  and that mini is still currently available as a free download but I'm not yet sure for how long...

Get the download link for 'Moon Dreams' by visiting this page.

Currently, I am participating in the Design Quest challenges over at Scrapping Fairytales.  My mini kit for the first week's challenge (another free download) is inspired by the Grimm Brothers' fairytale, 'Snow White'.

Get the download link for 'Who's the Fairest?' by visiting this page.  I'm sorry, the download link has expired.

And just today I've added 2 New Products to my store...

Frames - Naturally Inspired - Set 1 is available at this location in my store.

Frames - Naturally Inspired - Set 2 is available at this location in my store.

I'm also signed up to participate in the Design Factor Challenges over at Scrappers Online starting on October 15th, so be sure to check out that site later in the month.

Well, that's it for today, thanks for stopping by and Happy Scrapping to you.

A Moment of Thanks, July 4th and Break Time

A Moment of Thanks
This month marks the 8th year that E-Scape and Scrap has been in business and in an effort to say 'thank you' to all the customers throughout the years, the designers at E-Scape and Scrap have collaborated on another kit, aptly called 'A Moment of Thanks'.

The preview reflects only a portion of what is in the full kit.  The kit includes 51 digital papers (.jpg images 3600x3600px) and 127 embellishments (.png images) including 1 alphabet; 7 clusters; 19 frames; 28 nature themed items like flowers, butterlfies and leaves; 12 notions such as buttons, stitches, ribbons and bows; 18 cards/tags; 11 bows/ribbons; and 32 other miscellaneous elements like clocks, keys and angels.

For the entire month of July, you can get 'A Moment of Thanks' kit for FREE with a store purchase of $10 or more.

Here is my portion of 'A Moment of Thanks'.

To view more previews of this kit and to learn more about how to get the kit for free, please visit 'A Moment of Thanks' in The Nifty Boutique.

Additionally, there are a number of add-on products to coordinate with 'A Moment of Thanks' - here's one by me:

View all the products available in the 'A Moment of Thanks' series, by visiting the boutique's 'A Moment of Thanks' category.

July 4th
In the spirit of July 4th, Independence Day in the United States, I wanted to show you two layouts by Zanthia, a Creative Team Member at E-Scape and Scrap; to create these layouts Zanthia used my kit 'Robbie's Rockin' Red' and 'Word Art for the 4th' by Julie Mead.

I especially like the one of her dog, all decked out for the 4th of July celebrations; I think he's adorable.

Break Time
It's time for me to take a little break from designing and work on a number of things that need doing at home, things like cleaning, sanding and refinishing my back deck, cleaning out the garage and basement, having a yard sale or two... the list goes on.  I hope to get back into the design swing of things come mid September.  Until that time, this blog will be 'quiet'; however, my store at E-Scape and Scrap will remain open and I will still be available via email (contact information is available by viewing my complete profile).

Thank you for stopping by; Happy Scrapping!

DESIGNER DISCOVERY CONTEST

I've entered into the Designer Discovery Contest over at JessicaSpraque.com.  The winner of this contest will have their designs added to the product line of the Echo Park Paper Co. to be printed (traditional paper scrapping) and distributed worldwide  (in addition to a couple of monetary prizes).  Isn't that cool!

The deadline for this contest is tonight (not sure which time zone) at 11:59 PM.  On June 11th, the top 25 entries will be posted in a gallery at JessicaSprague.com and a public vote will be opened on June 11th.  I'm keeping my  fingers crossed that I'll be in that group.  I'll repost then and hope that you'll come by and vote... not necessarily for me, although that would be awesome, but for the one you like the best.

CONTEST UPDATE (posted June 15, 2012):  I did not make it into the top 25 but you can vote for your favorite if you like - Visit HERE for more information on that.

VACATION

I will be taking a 2 to 3 month break from my designing and my digital scrapbook addictions.  I have a number of personal things that need tending, things that have been sorely neglected since I discovered this digital scrapbooking world, and I thought the summer would be the perfect time to do this.  I'm hoping that, when I return, I will have rejuvenated my creative mojo and will have lots of new ideas for designing.

----------
Well, this has got to be the longest ever post that I've made.  If you're still will me, thank you!

See you on June 11th to post about my status in the Designer Discover Contest.

Thanks for stopping by; Happy Scrapping!

The Blog Train Blog - May, 2012 - A Royal Wedding

The Blog Train Blog is hosting another Blog Train this month titled 'A Royal Wedding' and I've created a 'bejeweled' collection of items as my contribution.

Here's what I have for you...

(Download expired).

The password is: tbtbMay12

Edited to add:  The password is not to gain access to the download, it is for purposes of 'unzipping' the file.  It has been tested and confirmed working properly.  If you are not asked to enter a password when running your archival software, then I would suggest trying another software program to 'unzip' your files - I recommend 7-zip.

Another Edit - May 3, 2012:  MAC USERS - I've been informed that 7-zip is for PC users only and have had 2 other, free, software programs suggested as possibilities for MAC users - I do not know anything about these programs nor of the site's that offer them, so please be an educated consumer and research them before use.  The programs are The Unarchiver, found at the MAC App Store and Stuffit Expander at stuffit.com.

If you've arrived at my blog by way of the blog train, then you would have arrived here from the blog of Digital Harmony Design Studio.

Your next stop would then be to the blog of Stargazy Creations.

For a complete list of participating designers and their URLs, please visit The Blog Train Blog.

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Scrapping!

New Product - Floral Filigrees

I just love old books.

Well, actually, I love new books too but I'm especially drawn to old books from the 19th century and earlier.  I think that their covers and bindings are so beautiful.  I am just drawn to the varying textures of the cloth or leather materials and to the hand-painted titles and designs that many have; they are often, to my mind very exquisite.

Since I love old books so much, I guess it makes sense that they would inspire me to create something for use in digital scrapbooking... and that's exactly how my newest product came about.

I've just released an element pack of metal-styled embellishments (includes 1 frame).  I call it 'Floral Filigrees'.

Maybe you too will be 'inspired' and can use these to adorn your scrapbook pages, both old and new, or maybe a personal greeting card or two.

This set is available now at my store at The Nifty Boutique or, if you wait until next week, they'll be on sale (50% off) from the 17th through the 20th of April, 2012.

Happy scrapping!

Robbie's Rockin' Red - Add-on packs and a FREEBIE

I've 2 new paper packs and 1 new set of 'word' tabs in my store, these coordinate with my latest kit 'Robbie's Rockin' Red.  Although the kit is themed for a teenage boy (you can read my previous post for details), when these add-on items are paired with the full kit, the kit becomes more versatile and more 'family' usable.  Check them out at my store (the image titles are linked).

And here's a close-up view of the patterned papers

Custom Digital Scrapbook Kit Design

I've a new digital scrapbook kit called Robbie's Rockin' Red.

This is Robbie.

Robbie was the inspiration for this kit; a customized kit for his mother (and my online friend), Claire.

I always wanted to do a custom designed kit based on someone's collection of photos (be it a birthday, a wedding, a family reunion, or some other event) or based on their specifications, so when Claire mentioned that she'd been looking for, but not finding, a kit with the 'correct' color red to match her son's favorite hoodie (hooded sweatshirt), a kit not too feminine to scrap layouts for a boy, I offered to design a kit for her.  Lucky for me, she accepted!

Working with photos of Robbie's hoodie, Claire's color choices, desired elements and paper styles, and a list of Robbie's interests, this kit was born.

A few elements in this kit were created by altering a designer resource base template but the rest of the kit is of my own creation using a combination of Photoshop styles, textures, brushes, actions and custom shapes; the sunglasses, ice cream cone, french fries, guitar, mobile phone, playing cards and the clock are all hand-drawn originals by me.

Although I designed this kit for a special teenage boy, the red, white, blue and gray colors make it usable for a number of other layout themes including, for many countries, patriotic events and celebrations.

The kit is now available for purchase at my E-Scape and Scrap store at The Nifty Boutique.  Options to purchase the papers and elements separately are also available - add-on packages coming soon.

I'd love to do more custom work!  If you like my designs and think you'd be interested in a digital scrapbook kit designed to your specifications and/or to match a set of your photographs, I'd love to hear from you; please feel free to send me an email - my contact information can be found by viewing my profile (the link at upper right, under my photo).

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Scrapping!
